Employment Law

Employment law has grown increasingly complex and employers are faced with more situations where they want and need legal assistance. Today's employment decisions can be tomorrow's lawsuit.

Our experienced employment and labor relations attorneys provide legal advice, representation, and training to our members on federal and state employment laws. We consult with members on everyday legal issues and compliance with changing laws and regulations. We review member policies, handbooks, letters, and agreements.

We help members develop legally-defensible solutions to difficult situations. Our goal is to put members in the best position possible if and when legal challenges arise.

Core Services Included in Membership

Legal Advice and Representation

Our attorneys counsel members on legal issues throughout the “life of the employee,” from questions about hiring to difficult separation decisions. We don't stop at just explaining the law, but also help our members brainstorm options and practical solutions. We also represent members in processes like unemployment hearings, civil rights charges, wage and hour complaints, and audits by federal and state agencies.

Legal Resources

We provide members with easily-accessible resources to assist them in answering legal questions and complying with the law. These resources include our monthly newsletter the Bulletin, weekly Hot Topics emails, practical legal guides called FYIs, sample policies and our Employee Handbook Planning Guide, our MSEC Employment Law Resource: The Blue Book, CCHAnswersNow and BLR.Safety.com online tools, and more.  All are available 24/7 on our website and by request. View our sample resources: Wage & Hour FYI; Employment Law Blue Book.

 Union and Labor Relations

Employers may not realize that some "labor" laws still affect them even if they do not have a union. Our attorneys help members without unions to understand their general obligations and to remain union-free. Our attorneys assist members with unions in contract negotiations, responses to unfair labor practice charges, arbitrations, and strikes.

Legal Compliance Training

Depending upon your business, legal compliance training may be required. Even where training is not required, it may be a recommended business practice. We deliver legal compliance training in an interactive and engaging manner to better assure that participants will be able to apply the new knowledge in their workplaces. Training is delivered in different formats including live in-person training and webinars. We offer classes at our offices and can also bring training to your location.
